Lake District Hotel Staff Prepare for 73-Mile Charity Walk
Staff from hotels throughout the Lake District are preparing to take on a challenging 73-mile charity walk along the Cumbria Way later this year.
Organised by the Lake District Hotels Association, the event will see participants complete the long-distance route over five days, with some walkers taking on the entire course and others joining for individual sections. The walk aims to raise money for Hospitality Action, a charity that supports hospitality workers facing difficulties such as illness, financial hardship, mental health issues and addiction.
Last year’s fundraising efforts were a success, with £10,500 raised through two separate walks that began in Borrowdale and Coniston before finishing at the Langdale Hotel. This year’s challenge is more ambitious, and James Hallam Insurance Brokers has joined as headline sponsor.
Craig Shaw, client director with James Hallam’s hospitality and travel team, will lead all five sections of the route from Ulverston to Carlisle. Shaw described the challenge as a step outside his comfort zone but said it was inspired by the success of last year’s “Walk for Wellbeing.”
Organisers say the walk is not only a fundraiser but also an opportunity for hospitality staff from different locations to come together socially while supporting a worthy cause. The David Snowdon Trust has already donated £5,000 in advance of the walk.
The Lake District Hotels Association represents around 50 independent and branded properties and tourist attractions in Cumbria. Those wishing to donate to the cause can do so via the dedicated JustGiving page.
