Lake District Chef Competes in Great British Menu Finals Week

20 Apr 2026 Lake District Chef Competes in Great British Menu Finals Week

A chef from the Lake District is competing in finals week of the BBC’s Great British Menu, one of the UK’s most prestigious culinary competitions.

The competition brings together top chefs from across the country, who must create high-level dishes inspired this year by the British film industry, while also highlighting regional identity and local produce.

The Lake District chef, representing the Northwest, earned a place in the finals after progressing through the regional heats, where chefs are judged on creativity, technical skill, and storytelling through food. The finalists now face a series of challenges across multiple courses, including canapés, fish, main dishes, and desserts.

The show is judged by a panel of leading culinary experts alongside guest judges connected to film and television, who assess how well each dish reflects the competition’s cinematic theme as well as the chefs’ regional influences.

The winner of the final's week will go on to cook at the programme’s prestigious banquet, where the most successful dishes from across the series are served to invited guests.

The Lake District continues to be strongly represented in the competition, with chefs from the region frequently appearing in the Northwest heats and often progressing deep into the contest, highlighting the area’s growing reputation for fine dining and innovative British cuisine.
