Kendal Youth Darts Academy Scores £2,500 Boost to Grow the Game
Kendal Youth Darts Academy has hit a winning mark after receiving a £2,500 boost from Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner’s community fund to support its work with young people.
The academy, based at Kendal Town’s football ground, used the funding to purchase new dartboards, lighting and other essential equipment helping to establish a welcoming space for players aged eight to 18 and encourage more young people to take part in the sport.
Since its launch, 28 young participants have joined the club, enjoying the chance to practise and compete while socialising in a positive, structured environment.
Commissioner David Allen visited the academy to see the improvements first-hand and praised the project for bringing the community together, creating opportunities for youth engagement and helping to keep young people engaged in constructive activities.
He highlighted that while £2,500 might seem modest, it has made a tangible difference in supporting the academy’s growth and energising those involved.
Jemma Telford, who runs the academy, was commended for her passion and commitment to making the programme fun and inclusive a key factor in its early success.
The Commissioner also confirmed that the community fund will open again soon, offering further opportunities for local projects that support youth engagement and positive community development.
