Investigations Continue After Death Of Teenage Girl At Kendal Calling

Investigations remain ongoing after a 17 year old girl tragically died during the Kendal Calling music festival in Cumbria last weekend.

Cumbria Police confirmed that enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the teenager's death are continuing. Officers said their thoughts remain with the girl's family and loved ones as the investigation progresses.

The force acknowledged the tragedy before reflecting on its policing operation for this year's festival, stating that supporting the family and establishing the circumstances of the incident remain the priority.

Around 40,000 people attended Kendal Calling, one of Cumbria's largest annual events, which took place over the weekend. Despite the large crowds, police recorded 34 crimes, including assault, drug offences, public order incidents, sexual offences and theft. Fifteen arrests were made in connection with several of those offences.

Chief Superintendent Matt Kennerley, Gold Commander for the event, said the overwhelming majority of festival goers enjoyed the weekend safely. He praised officers, staff and partner agencies for their professionalism and thanked organisers, emergency services, local authorities and surrounding communities for their cooperation.

Cumbria's Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen also expressed his condolences to the teenager's family and friends. He said that, as a father, he could only imagine the heartbreak they were experiencing and praised the joint efforts of organisers and emergency services in keeping the event safe for most attendees.

Police confirmed that a small number of reported offences from the festival remain under investigation alongside enquiries into the teenager's death. Officers have not released further details while investigations continue.
