INQUEST RULES MARK HUGHES SON DIED FROM SUDDEN ADULT DEATH SYNDROME
An inquest has concluded that Alex Hughes, the son of former footballer and manager Mark Hughes, died from Sudden Adult Death Syndrome, with his death officially recorded as resulting from natural causes.
The hearing was told that Alex Hughes, aged 38, collapsed at his home in Cheshire on 19 June. He was discovered by his two young sons, with his eldest immediately attempting cardiopulmonary resuscitation before emergency services arrived. Despite their efforts, he could not be revived.
The coroner determined that the cause of death was Sudden Adult Death Syndrome (SADS), a rare condition in which a person suffers an unexpected cardiac arrest without an immediately identifiable cause. The verdict confirmed that Mr Hughes died of natural causes, bringing the inquest to a close.
Medical organisations describe SADS as a condition that can affect seemingly healthy individuals, often without prior warning. He was widely regarded as a dedicated football professional who made a significant contribution behind the scenes.
