Illegal Workers Found at Carlisle Business Following Police and Home Office Raid

A Carlisle business could face significant financial penalties after a joint operation by Cumbria Police and Home Office Immigration Enforcement uncovered workers who did not have the legal right to work in the UK.

The enforcement raid was carried out on Thursday, 30 July, by neighbourhood policing officers alongside Immigration Enforcement officials. Authorities have not disclosed the name or location of the business involved.

Carlisle Police said the operation formed part of ongoing efforts to tackle criminal activity and protect vulnerable people from exploitation. Officers highlighted that the use of illegal labour is often linked to organised crime and unethical business practices.

Police also warned that individuals working illegally are frequently subjected to poor working conditions, low wages and exploitation, with some living in unsuitable accommodation while being denied basic employment rights.

Businesses found employing people without the legal right to work can face severe financial penalties and further enforcement action under UK immigration laws. Officials said operations like this are intended to protect legitimate businesses while preventing the exploitation of vulnerable workers.

Cumbria Police urged employers to ensure all staff have the correct legal documentation before offering employment and reaffirmed their commitment to working with partner agencies to disrupt illegal working and organised criminal activity across the county.
