Heavy Rain To Batter Cumbria Before Brighter Skies Return.
Cumbria is facing a classic spell of changeable Cumbrian weather, with heavy rain expected across the county today before conditions improve temporarily on Sunday.
Saturday is expected to be particularly wet, with widespread heavy downpours and temperatures reaching around 19°C in some areas. Coastal locations including Whitehaven and Workington are also expected to experience gusty winds, while some higher inland areas could see much cooler temperatures overnight.
The southern fells around Ambleside and Windermere are expected to receive some of the heaviest rainfall when the wet weather returns on Monday. Carlisle and areas further north are forecast to experience somewhat lighter rainfall compared with the southern parts of the county.
Sunday is likely to provide a welcome break from the unsettled conditions. Most parts of Cumbria should remain dry and brighter, with lighter winds and temperatures reaching around 18°C. Rain chances are expected to fall to below 10 per cent in many areas, making it the best opportunity for outdoor activities during the weekend.
However, the improvement will be short-lived. Heavy rain is forecast to return on Monday, particularly across the fells, with temperatures again reaching around 19°C. Some areas could face a rain probability of more than 90 per cent as the next band of wet weather moves across the county.
Conditions are then expected to become cooler and more unsettled on Tuesday and Wednesday. Tuesday could bring scattered showers with highs around 16°C, while further rain from the west is expected on Wednesday, when temperatures may fall to between 13°C and 15°C.
Across towns including Barrow, Kendal, Keswick, Millom, Penrith, Ulverston and Windermere, residents should prepare for heavy rain today, followed by a mostly dry Sunday and another wet spell on Monday. By the middle of next week, the weather is expected to feel noticeably cooler and more autumnal.
The forecast is generated using Met Office data and highlights another typically unpredictable spell of weather for Cumbria, with residents getting only a brief taste of sunshine before rain and cooler temperatures return.
