Free Lake District Walks Launched to Help People Build Confidence

Free Lake District Walks Launched to Help People Build Confidence

A new initiative offering free guided walks in the Lake District has been launched to help local people build confidence in getting outdoors and exploring the countryside. The programme is funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and Sport England’s Movement Fund and aims to open up the region’s stunning landscapes to people who may feel unsure walking alone.
The walks are being delivered by Guided Outdoor Adventuring CIC in partnership with Guided Outdoor Adventures, led locally by qualified mountain leader Mark Eddy at Sizergh Castle. The programme specifically targets people over 50, beginners, and those returning to activity after illness, injury or periods of isolation, addressing what organisers describe as the “confidence gap” that stops many from enjoying outdoor walks.
Founder Julia Hartley explained that while many people want to walk locally, they often don’t feel safe or confident doing it alone. Providing expert guides and supportive groups allows participants to enjoy the outdoors with reassurance and encouragement.
All walks in the programme are free to attend, and professional guides will help participants navigate Lake District trails while offering support and reassurance throughout the experience. This approach not only promotes physical activity but also fosters social connections and boosts confidence among walkers of various abilities.
Residents interested in joining the walks are encouraged to find out more and book sessions through Guided Outdoor Adventures.
