Forth Engineering Expands West Cumbria Base with New Trade Counter and Community Partnership

05 Jul 2026 Forth Engineering Expands West Cumbria Base with New Trade Counter and Community Partnership

Forth Engineering has expanded its operations in West Cumbria by leasing two additional buildings on the Leconfield Industrial Estate in Cleator Moor. The move strengthens the company's regional presence while introducing new services for local businesses. The expansion is also expected to deliver wider economic and community benefits.

One of the newly acquired buildings has been transformed into a hydraulic and pneumatic trade counter serving both trade customers and the public. The facility will provide same day turnaround for many bespoke hydraulic hose orders, helping businesses minimise costly machinery downtime. Managing director Graham Cartwright said the service is designed to support sectors including agriculture, manufacturing and heavy industry. A new hydraulic engineer role has also been created, with Gavin Hudson appointed to the position.

The new counter will focus on hydraulic and pneumatic equipment while also offering machinery repair and technical sales support. Company leaders believe the investment fills a gap in the local market by providing a fast and reliable engineering service closer to customers. The expansion forms part of Forth's wider strategy to strengthen industrial support across West Cumbria.

Forth has also dedicated part of its newly acquired warehouse space to support the Cleator Moor charity Goodlives. The charity will use the facility to maintain machinery used in its groundworks projects and employability training programmes for vulnerable and unemployed people. Chief executive Mark Telford said the company was pleased to provide the space at a significantly reduced rate to help the organisation continue its valuable work.

The latest investment reflects Forth Engineering's continued expansion across Cumbria in response to growing demand for specialist engineering services. The business has consistently invested in new facilities, equipment and skilled staff to support industries across the region. Company leaders say the latest project reinforces their long term commitment to West Cumbria.

Local businesses are expected to benefit from quicker access to specialist hydraulic services while community organisations gain additional practical support. The combination of commercial growth, job creation and charitable collaboration highlights the company's broader contribution to the regional economy. Forth says it will continue investing in both engineering capability and community partnerships as it expands.
