Former West Cumbrian Electrical Store Could Become Furniture Storage Facility

08 Jun 2026 Former West Cumbrian Electrical Store Could Become Furniture Storage Facility

A proposal has been lodged to transform a former electrical supplies premises in West Cumbria into a storage facility serving a local furniture business.

Applicant Michael Cleeland has submitted plans to Cumberland Council seeking permission to change the use of the former Lakes Electrical Supplies building on Station Road. Under the proposal, the property would be used as a warehouse for storing carpets and furniture connected to the Leslie Cleeland store on Main Street.

The application also includes plans to install 10 removable security bollards in the site's car park. The bollards, proposed in a bright yellow finish for visibility, are intended to prevent unauthorised vehicle access while maintaining safe pedestrian movement.

According to planning documents, the bollards can be unlocked and removed when access is required for emergency services or authorised vehicles. The design also ensures continued access for pedestrians and wheelchair users through appropriately spaced gaps.

Cumberland Council is expected to consider the application as part of the planning process in the coming weeks.
