Fleeing Driver Loses Crocs In Bog During Carlisle Police Chase.

A police chase near Carlisle ended in an unusual fashion after a fleeing driver was located in boggy ground after losing his Crocs while attempting to escape from officers.

The incident took place in the Crosby on Eden area during the early hours of Saturday, September 5, after a vehicle failed to stop for police officers in Carlisle. Cumbria Police said officers from the neighbourhood policing team, firearms support unit and response team were involved in the pursuit as officers worked to stop the vehicle.

After the vehicle was stopped, the occupants abandoned it and attempted to make their escape on foot across open ground. Police officers continued the search on foot, while a drone was deployed to help locate those who had fled from the scene. The difficult terrain made the search more challenging, but officers were eventually able to locate one of the fleeing individuals.

The driver was found in boggy ground, where he had reportedly lost his Crocs while trying to get away from police. Two people were subsequently taken into custody in connection with the incident. They were arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and drug driving.

The incident demonstrates how police can use specialist resources, including drones and additional response teams, when suspects attempt to escape across open or difficult terrain. Cumbria Police continues to use a combination of neighbourhood officers, response teams and specialist resources to tackle suspected offences and pursue people who attempt to evade officers.
