Five Day Road Closure Planned In Carlisle For Culvert Repairs
A road in Baldwinholme, Carlisle, is set to close temporarily while repair work is carried out on a local culvert.
The scheme is being arranged by Cumberland Council and is scheduled to begin on Monday, September 14, subject to suitable weather and site conditions.
Work will be carried out each day between 8am and 4pm during the repair programme. A temporary road closure will remain in place throughout the duration of the work.
The closure means vehicles will not be able to travel through the affected section while the repairs are taking place. Drivers will instead need to follow an alternative route around the closure.
A signed diversion route will be provided to help motorists navigate the area. Drivers approaching the closure are expected to follow the temporary signs and allow additional time for their journeys.
The planned work forms part of maintenance activity to address the condition of the culvert. Completing the repairs will require the road to remain closed while the necessary work is undertaken.
The council has advised that the closure is expected to last for five days. The timetable remains dependent on weather conditions and the suitability of the site for the planned works.
The daily working hours have been set between 8am and 4pm, meaning the main disruption will occur during the daytime period. Road users travelling through Baldwinholme should therefore plan their journeys accordingly.
The temporary restrictions will affect vehicle access through the closed section. Motorists who normally use the road will need to use the signed diversion until the repair programme has been completed.
Emergency service vehicles will continue to have access through the area. This arrangement is intended to ensure that emergency movements can be maintained while the road remains unavailable to general traffic.
Pedestrians will also be able to continue accessing the area during the works. Dismounted cyclists will likewise be able to pass through, allowing non motorised users to maintain access despite the vehicle restriction.
The council has also confirmed that waste and recycling collection services will not be affected by the temporary closure. Residents should therefore continue to receive their normal collection services while the repairs are underway.
The work is expected to provide necessary maintenance to the culvert and allow the council to address the infrastructure while managing traffic and access around the site.
Local residents and motorists using the surrounding roads are advised to take account of the temporary arrangements and follow the diversion signs throughout the repair period.
Subject to weather and site conditions, the works are scheduled to begin as planned and continue during the stated daytime hours until the five day programme is completed.
