Firefighters Spend Hours Freeing Cow Stuck in Mud Near Keswick

Firefighters from Keswick, Penrith and Workington fire stations were called out on Friday to assist in freeing a cow that had become stuck in mud near Threlkeld, close to Keswick in the Lake District.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said the rescue was a prolonged operation, with crews spending several hours on site working alongside a veterinarian, a large animal rescue team and the farmer to safely release the trapped animal.
The combined effort involved both manpower and the use of on-site machinery to slowly and carefully pull the cow free, ensuring the animal did not suffer further distress or injury during the process.
Fire and rescue teams emphasised that animal rescues can be demanding and require close coordination with farmers and specialists, particularly when larger livestock are involved.
The cow was eventually freed and was able to walk again after the successful rescue operation.
