Final Dave Day Preparations Under Way as Thousands of Bikers Prepare for Tribute to Hairy Biker Dave Myers
BARROW-IN-FURNESS Preparations are gathering pace for the final Dave Day event, a nationwide motorcycle tribute celebrating the life of beloved television personality and Hairy Biker star Dave Myers.
Thousands of motorcyclists are expected to take part in “Dave Day 3: The Last Ride Home,” which will see riders travel from London to Myers’ hometown of Barrow-in-Furness on June 20. Organisers say the event is set to be the biggest since the annual tribute began following Myers’ death from cancer in 2024.
The event was created to honour Myers’ life while raising money for charitable causes that were close to his heart. Since its launch, Dave Day has generated significant support across the country and has raised more than £120,000 for the NSPCC’s Childline service, alongside funding for local community projects in Barrow. Organisers say this year’s event has already raised around £12,000 before the motorcycles have even taken to the road.
Participants will begin their journey at London’s famous Ace Café before travelling north through several key stops, including Oxford, the National Motorcycle Museum, Knutsford and Lancaster, before arriving in Barrow for a weekend of celebrations. Thousands of spectators are expected to line roads along the route to welcome the riders as they make their way to Cumbria.
Event organiser Jason Woodcock said supporters from across the country have already signed up for the ride, while businesses and sponsors have stepped forward to help make the final event a success. Organisers hope the strong turnout will help break previous fundraising records and provide additional support for the charities benefiting from the event.
The tribute has become one of the most significant motorcycle charity events in the United Kingdom. Since its creation, Dave Day has attracted riders from all backgrounds who share a connection with Myers, whose warmth, humour and passion for motorcycles made him one of Britain’s most popular television figures.
Alongside the ride itself, Barrow is preparing for a packed programme of activities and entertainment. Planned events include charity concerts, motorcycle exhibitions, stunt shows, food festivals, live music performances, community activities and fundraising events across the town. Local businesses and organisations are also expected to play a major role in welcoming visitors during the weekend celebrations.
Supporters of the event say the gathering has evolved into more than a motorcycle ride, becoming a celebration of Myers’ legacy and the positive impact he had on communities throughout the country. His television work, charitable efforts and connection with fans continue to inspire thousands of people who return each year to take part in the tribute.
Representatives from the NSPCC have praised the event for its continued support of Childline, noting that the funds raised help provide essential services for children and young people across the United Kingdom. Organisers are encouraging participants and supporters to continue donating in the lead-up to the event, with hopes of achieving a record-breaking fundraising total.
As the final Dave Day approaches, anticipation continues to grow across Cumbria and beyond. For many riders and supporters, the event will serve as both a farewell tribute and a lasting celebration of a man whose passion for motorcycles, food and people left a lasting mark on British culture.
Officials are expecting large crowds throughout the weekend and have urged visitors to plan journeys in advance, follow safety guidance and support the event responsibly as Barrow prepares to host what could become the biggest Dave Day gathering yet.
