Film Podcast Unites Cinema Fans in Penrith and Beyond

A new film podcast is bringing cinema fans together in Penrith and beyond. Movies In A Nutshell, hosted by Marc Farquhar, Darren Horne and Paul Day, started as informal conversations about movies and has since become a weekly show enjoyed by listeners both locally and around the world.

The podcast aims to help listeners decide whether to watch or revisit films by offering a spoiler-free breakdown of style, tone and comparisons, followed by deeper insights for those who have already seen the film.

Launched in January 2025, Movies In A Nutshell has grown organically and even reached the Apple Podcasts UK Top 200 in the Film & TV category. Fans also regularly attend Cinema Social events at The Alhambra Cinema in Penrith, where hosts and listeners gather to watch and discuss movies together.

The chemistry between the three hosts, the everyman movie fan, the film lecturer and the trivia-loving nerd, has been central to the podcast’s appeal. With a growing audience both locally and internationally, the trio now plan to record live episodes in front of an audience in future.
