Extra Police Patrols After Vandalism At Penrith Playground
Extra police patrols are being carried out around a Penrith playground following a series of anti social behaviour incidents that have caused damage to property and a recently improved play area.
Eden Police said officers are investigating incidents at the Milton Street playground in Raiselands Croft, where large stones and balls have reportedly been kicked towards nearby homes and vehicles.
The behaviour has resulted in damage to front doors and vehicles in the surrounding area, creating concern among residents and prompting police to increase their presence around the playground.
New turf installed by Westmorland and Furness Council as part of improvements for new play equipment was also damaged just days after it had been laid.
Police have appealed to parents, carers and relatives of children who use the park to speak with them about the consequences of the behaviour and its impact on other residents.
Officers have also raised concerns about the amount of litter being left across the playground and surrounding area. There are bins available at the park, and residents and visitors have been encouraged to use them properly.
The police response will include additional patrols designed both to deter further incidents and to identify those responsible. Officers said the patrols will also provide an opportunity to educate young people about the costs and wider consequences of vandalism and anti social behaviour.
Damage to public facilities can create additional costs for local authorities and potentially delay improvements intended for the benefit of children and families in the community.
The incidents have also affected people living close to the playground, with damage to vehicles and front doors adding to concerns about the behaviour taking place in the area.
Police are encouraging anyone with information about the incidents to speak to officers and help identify those responsible.
The increased patrols are expected to continue as officers work with the local community to address the problem and prevent further damage at the playground.
Authorities are also hoping that parents and carers will help reinforce the message that damaging public facilities, private property or leaving large amounts of litter can have a direct impact on the wider community.
The situation remains under investigation, with police continuing to monitor the area and respond to reports of further anti social behaviour.
