Essential Road Resurfacing Set to Disrupt Traffic on Two West Cumbrian Routes
Cumberland Council has announced plans to carry out essential resurfacing work on two rural roads in West Cumbria, resulting in temporary full closures to traffic.
The first phase of the programme will take place on the B5289 between Low Lorton and Whitbeck Bridge from Monday 9 February to Friday 13 February 2026. Immediately following this, crews will move to the C2030 between Bracken Thwaite and Low Liza Bridge, with work scheduled from Monday 16 February to Friday 20 February.
The work is part of the council’s ongoing commitment to maintain the local highway network. However, the duration of the resurfacing is dependent on weather and site conditions.
During working hours, from 7:30 am to 7 pm, the roads will be fully closed to vehicles to ensure the safety of both workers and the travelling public. Emergency services, pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will still have access, but resident access may be restricted during these times, with traffic marshals on hand to assist where possible.
Refuse collection services are expected to continue as scheduled where it is safe to do so.
Motorists are advised to plan ahead and follow signed diversion routes while the works are underway. For further details, contact Cumberland Council’s Highways Hotline quoting the project reference for the respective roads.
