Drug Dealer Jailed for Five Years After Police Crackdown in North Cumbria

A 22-year-old man from Longtown has been jailed for five years after being convicted of multiple drug-related offences following a series of police investigations spanning nearly two years.

Bradley Cowan, of Moor Road, was sentenced on 16 March after being found guilty of offences including being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs, two counts of possession with intent to supply cocaine, possession with intent to supply cannabis, and handling criminal property.

The case relates to three separate incidents that took place in May 2024, September 2024, and January 2026, all of which highlighted Cowan’s continued involvement in drug supply within the local community.

The court heard that on 10 May 2024, Cowan first came to the attention of officers from Carlisle Police’s Neighbourhood Policing Team while riding a Sur-Ron bike in Longtown. When officers attended his home, he attempted to flee but was quickly detained. Upon search, he was found carrying cocaine and a mobile phone. A subsequent search of his property uncovered additional drugs, paraphernalia, and cash. Analysis of his phone later revealed messages linked to drug dealing.

In September 2024, Cowan was again stopped and searched under the Misuse of Drugs Act following reports of suspected drug use in a premises toilet. Officers discovered over £1,000 in cash on him. A further search of his home led to the recovery of more cash and cocaine. Despite denying involvement in drug supply and claiming the money came from the sale of a bike, he failed to provide any supporting details. Investigators later found further incriminating evidence on his phone, including messages related to drug transactions and a list of debts.

The final incident occurred in January 2026 when officers, acting on intelligence about suspected drug dealing, attended Cowan’s address. He was arrested and a search of the property uncovered cannabis, nitrous oxide canisters, and wraps of cocaine.

Speaking after the sentencing, Community Beat Officer PC Nick Leigh said Cowan had been actively involved in drug supply within the community and praised the proactive efforts taken to disrupt his activities. He also highlighted the importance of information provided by members of the public in helping police target ongoing criminal behaviour.

Police are continuing to urge residents to report any suspicious activity, including suspected drug dealing, unusual behaviour, or concerns about crime in their neighbourhoods, to help keep communities safe.
