Drivers Warned Of Long Delays After M6 Collision
Drivers are facing significant delays on the M6 northbound following a collision that has left the motorway blocked between two junctions, with motorists being advised to avoid the area where possible.
The collision occurred between Junction 35 at Carnforth and Junction 36 at Crooklands, resulting in the northbound carriageway being blocked while emergency services dealt with the incident. Congestion has subsequently built up in the area.
The incident was reported at around 12.45pm, with emergency services attending the scene shortly afterwards. The motorway closure has created disruption for motorists travelling north through the affected section of the M6.
Cumbria Police confirmed that its officers were assisting Lancashire Police while emergency services remained at the scene. The involvement of officers from both forces reflects the location of the incident close to the county boundary.
Motorists travelling towards the affected section are being advised to consider alternative routes wherever possible. Drivers who cannot avoid the area have been urged to allow additional time for their journeys because of the congestion.
The closure between Junction 35 and Junction 36 is affecting northbound traffic travelling through the area. Drivers approaching from further south may encounter increasing delays as traffic is diverted or held away from the blocked section.
Road users are being asked to check their planned journeys before setting off and consider whether another route would be more suitable. Those already travelling in the area should follow instructions from police and traffic management teams.
The disruption could have an impact beyond the immediate section of motorway as vehicles seek alternative routes around the closure. This may result in increased traffic on surrounding roads while the emergency response and recovery operation continues.
Emergency services remained at the location while dealing with the consequences of the collision. Until the scene has been cleared and the motorway can safely reopen, motorists are being advised to remain patient and avoid unnecessary journeys through the affected stretch.
Drivers using the M6 northbound should allow considerably more time if their journey takes them towards Carnforth or Crooklands. Anyone with flexibility is encouraged to delay their journey or use an alternative route until conditions improve.
The collision has caused disruption during a busy period for road users travelling through the area, making early journey planning particularly important. Motorists are advised to take account of live traffic conditions before committing to the affected route.
Police and other emergency services are continuing to manage the incident and associated traffic disruption. Motorists should follow official instructions and avoid attempting to pass through closed sections of the motorway.
The situation may change as the emergency response progresses and the carriageway becomes available again. Drivers are therefore encouraged to check the latest traffic information before travelling and to allow additional time for any journey affected by congestion.
