Driver rescued after car overturns during beach stunt
Emergency services were called after a driver overturned their vehicle while performing dangerous manoeuvres on a beach in Cumbria.
The incident happened on the sands at Flook burgh on April 6, when the driver was reportedly attempting “doughnuts” a stunt involving spinning a vehicle in circles. The vehicle’s wheels became stuck in the sand, causing it to flip over.
Coastguard teams from Furness and Arnside attended the scene alongside fire, ambulance and police services amid initial uncertainty over possible injuries.
One person was treated for injuries at the scene before being handed over to paramedics. Authorities also raised concerns about potential environmental damage, as the overturned vehicle posed a pollution risk in a protected area.
Specialist rescue teams later worked to recover the vehicle and move it to a safer location above the high-water mark.
