Driver injured as vehicle overturns while doing doughnuts on Cumbria beach

07 Apr 2026 Driver injured as vehicle overturns while doing doughnuts on Cumbria beach

A driver was injured and emergency services were called after a vehicle overturned on a beach at Flookburgh in Cumbria when the driver attempted to perform “doughnuts” in the sand on Easter Monday, April 6.

Furness and Arnside Coastguard Rescue Teams responded to the scene alongside Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, Northwest Ambulance Service and Cumbria police amid initial uncertainty about whether anyone was trapped.

The vehicle’s wheels dug into the soft sand during the manoeuvre, causing it to roll onto its side. One person was treated for injuries at the scene before being transferred to paramedics.

Because the overturned vehicle posed a pollution risk in the Site of Special Scientific Interest at Flookburgh, Bay Search and Rescue was also called in to help right the vehicle and tow it above the high-water mark to protect the environment.
