Downpours Set To Ease As Cumbria Looks Ahead To A Brighter Weekend
Cumbria is set for a notably unsettled spell of weather, with heavy rain and brisk winds expected before conditions gradually improve towards the weekend.
Wednesday and Thursday are expected to be the wettest days, with frequent heavy downpours across the county and temperatures generally remaining around 18C.
The forecast suggests the weather will begin to change on Friday as showers become more scattered and many parts of Cumbria enjoy longer drier periods.
Saturday is expected to provide the best conditions of the five day period, with much of the county forecast to remain dry, calm and bright.
Showers are then expected to return on Sunday, although temperatures could rise slightly, with some parts of the county approaching 19C.
The heaviest rain on Wednesday is expected across southern and western areas, with Barrow and Ambleside among the locations likely to experience particularly heavy downpours.
Parts of the Eden Valley could see slightly lighter conditions compared with areas further south and west, although wet weather will remain widespread across the county.
Thursday will bring another unsettled day, with frequent showers, some of them heavy, although there should be short periods of drier weather between the downpours.
Friday is expected to be noticeably breezier, but rainfall should begin to ease, leaving many areas with a drier afternoon and temperatures reaching around 17C.
The weekend begins with a significant improvement on Saturday, which is forecast to be largely dry, calm and bright across Cumbria, with temperatures between 16C and 17C. Sunday is likely to be cloudier, with scattered showers becoming more likely, particularly later in the day. Temperatures could reach around 19C in some areas.
Coastal locations are expected to experience stronger winds during Friday, with Whitehaven and Silloth among the areas likely to feel particularly breezy.
Inland areas should be somewhat more sheltered from the strongest winds, although conditions will remain changeable as the county moves towards the weekend. There will also be some variation in temperatures across the county, with Carlisle and Kendal potentially reaching around 19C on Sunday, while higher ground around Alston may struggle to reach 17C.
The five day forecast points towards a clear progression from a wet and unsettled start to a more settled weekend, although Sunday is expected to bring another increase in cloud and showers.
