Delays after M6 lane closed due to defect
Drivers experienced major delays on the M6 after a lane closure was put in place due to a reported defect in the road surface.
According to National Highways, the affected section was on the southbound carriageway between Junction 39 at Shap and Junction 38. The issue led to congestion building throughout the area, causing disruption for motorists travelling through the region.
Traffic delays were reported to be as long as 50 minutes, with queues forming as vehicles were forced to merge into fewer lanes. The incident occurred at around 1:50pm on Friday, April 10, a busy period for road users.
Highways teams were quickly deployed to the scene to carry out necessary repairs and ensure the road could be safely reopened as soon as possible. The closure highlights how even minor infrastructure issues can lead to significant disruption on major routes like the M6.
Authorities advised drivers to expect continued traffic congestion and allow extra time for their journeys while repair work was underway. The situation also served as a reminder of the importance of maintaining road infrastructure to prevent unexpected travel delays.
