Danny Rose Leaves Barrow To Join Exeter City On Permanent Transfer
Experienced striker Danny Rose has left Barrow to continue his career in the EFL after completing a permanent move to Exeter City. The 33 year old joins the Devon club after spending part of the 2025 to 2026 season with Barrow.
Rose arrives at Exeter City with extensive experience across the English Football League, having made more than 400 career appearances and scored more than 100 goals during his professional career.
His career has included spells with Barnsley, Bury, Mansfield Town, Northampton Town, Stevenage, Grimsby Town and Barrow, giving him experience across several levels of the professional game.
Rose began his professional career with Barnsley before moving to Bury, where he established himself as a regular Football League player.
He subsequently spent four seasons with Mansfield Town, making 141 appearances and scoring 38 goals during his time with the club.
In 2020, Rose moved to Northampton Town as he continued to build his career in the EFL and add to his experience as an established striker.
A move to Stevenage followed in 2022, with Rose playing an important role as the club secured promotion to League One during the 2022 to 2023 season.
Rose then joined Grimsby Town, where he enjoyed another productive spell. He scored 29 goals in 95 appearances across all competitions during his time with the club.
His next move came in January 2026, when he joined Barrow from Grimsby Town as the Bluebirds looked to strengthen their squad during the second half of the season. Rose made 25 League Two appearances for Barrow and scored four goals during his time at Holker Street.
Barrow were ultimately relegated from the EFL at the end of the season, meaning Rose's move to Exeter represents an immediate return to the professional league structure.
The transfer gives Exeter an experienced forward who has spent much of his career playing in the EFL and has consistently demonstrated an ability to contribute goals.
Rose said he was keen for the move to Exeter to be completed once he became aware of the club's interest, adding that he still believes he has something to offer at EFL level.
He also said he was pleased to have the opportunity at Exeter to demonstrate what he can contribute as he begins the next stage of his career.
The move represents another chapter in a career that has already taken Rose through a number of established English clubs and seen him reach the milestone of more than 100 professional goals.
Exeter will now have Rose available as they continue their campaign, while Barrow will move forward without a striker who joined the club earlier in 2026 following his productive spell with Grimsby Town.
For Rose, the permanent transfer provides the opportunity to return to the EFL and continue his playing career at a club where he will bring considerable experience to the squad.
