Cumbria's Food And Drink Producers Celebrate Success At Great Taste Awards
Cumbria's food and drink producers have earned prestigious recognition after achieving outstanding success at the internationally respected Great Taste Awards.
Organised by the Guild of Fine Food, the Great Taste Awards are regarded as one of the world's most respected food accreditation schemes. This year, more than 15,000 products were judged by chefs, food critics, buyers, and industry experts, with 4,286 receiving one star, 1,596 awarded two stars, and 306 achieving the coveted three star rating.
Among Cumbria's biggest successes was the Lyth Valley Damson Company, whose Damson Fruit Cheese received the highest possible three star award. The judges praised the product's exceptional flavour, balance, and quality, placing it among the finest food products entered this year.
English Lakes Ice Cream, based in Kendal, also enjoyed success after receiving a two star award for its new Amarena Cherry Ice Cream and a one star award for its Irish Cream Ice Cream. The company said the recognition reflects its commitment to producing premium ice cream using high quality ingredients.
Area Sales Manager Andrea King said the awards were a proud achievement for the business, particularly as both winning products were newly developed flavours. She credited the success to the dedication and passion of the entire team behind the company's continued innovation.
The Great Taste Awards assess products solely on flavour through blind tasting, meaning packaging and branding play no part in the judging process. Winning products are recognised internationally as meeting exceptionally high standards of taste and craftsmanship.
Cumbria has built a strong reputation for producing award winning food and drink, with local businesses regularly receiving recognition for artisan products, dairy goods, preserves, baked goods, beverages, and confectionery. The latest results further reinforce the county's growing status as one of Britain's leading food producing regions.
The success of Cumbrian producers at this year's awards highlights the strength of the county's independent food industry and provides valuable national and international recognition that is expected to support future sales, tourism, and export opportunities.
