Cumbrian School Introduces Football-Focused Alternative to A-Levels
A secondary school in Cumbria has unveiled a new football-focused education pathway, providing students with an alternative to traditional A-level studies.
Dallam School has partnered with GT7 to introduce the programme, aimed at students with a strong interest in football and related career opportunities.
The course will run over two years and is equivalent to studying three A-levels. It combines practical training on the pitch with classroom-based learning and insights into the wider football industry, including areas such as coaching, performance analysis, marketing, and business.
School leaders say the initiative builds on the success of their existing football academy and is designed to broaden opportunities for students beyond traditional academic routes. Participants will not only develop their playing abilities but also gain a deeper understanding of the sport as a professional sector.
Headteacher Steven Henneberry described the partnership as a significant step in strengthening the school’s sixth form offering, highlighting its balance between academic challenge and industry-focused learning. Meanwhile, representatives from GT7 said the programme would help students gain recognised qualifications while exploring diverse career paths within football.
The new pathway is expected to open doors to higher education, employment, and a range of football-related careers, reflecting a growing demand for vocational alternatives in post-16 education.
