Cumbrian Residents Warned About Fraud Risk After Rise in Scam Cases

Residents in Cumbria have been warned to remain vigilant after police reported a rise in fraud related incidents across the county.

Officers say criminals are increasingly targeting people through phone calls, messages and online scams designed to trick victims into sharing personal information or sending money. Authorities are urging residents to stop and think before responding to any unexpected requests for financial or personal details.

Police explained that fraudsters often pretend to be from trusted organisations such as banks, government agencies or delivery companies. In some cases, scammers may ask victims to transfer money, provide bank details or withdraw cash under false pretences.

Officials stressed that legitimate organisations will never ask people to share sensitive banking information, PIN numbers or send money through couriers or unusual payment methods.

Police are encouraging residents to speak with friends and family, particularly elderly or vulnerable people, about common scam tactics so they can recognise the warning signs.

Anyone who believes they have been targeted by fraud is urged to report the incident to police or the national fraud reporting service. Authorities say raising awareness is one of the most effective ways to prevent more people from becoming victims.
