Cumbrian Firefighters Deployed To Help Battle Major Derbyshire Wildfire
Specialist firefighters from Cumbria have travelled to Derbyshire to help tackle a major wildfire burning across Tintwistle Moor after a national request for assistance was made through the UK's National Resilience network.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service confirmed that specially trained wildfire crews from Appleby, Keswick, Millom, Sedbergh, and Ulverston have joined firefighters from Derbyshire Fire & Rescue Service as efforts continue to bring the large moorland blaze under control.
Alongside the additional personnel, Cumbria has also deployed its specialist Unimog wildfire vehicle. The all terrain 4×4 is specifically designed for wildfire operations, allowing firefighters to reach remote areas of difficult terrain that are inaccessible to conventional fire engines.
The support was mobilised through the National Resilience framework, which enables specialist fire and rescue resources from across the UK to be deployed rapidly when large scale incidents exceed the capacity of local services. The ongoing wildfire at Tintwistle Moor has required assistance from multiple fire and rescue services due to its size and challenging location.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service praised the crews taking part in the operation, saying the service was proud of its firefighters for travelling to support colleagues in Derbyshire and helping bring the incident safely under control.
Wildfires have become increasingly common across parts of the UK during prolonged periods of hot, dry weather. Fire services have repeatedly warned that parched vegetation, strong winds, and high temperatures can cause fires to spread rapidly across moorland, placing both communities and emergency responders at risk.
Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service said it remains committed to supporting national emergency responses while maintaining cover across the county. The deployment demonstrates the importance of specialist wildfire training and the close cooperation between fire services during major incidents across the country.
