A much-loved Cumbrian ice cream business has served its final bucket after more than a decade of welcoming families, tourists and local customers.
Cumbrian Cow Ice Cream, based at the family’s dairy farm near Ulverston, has completed its final season after operating for 11 years. The decision marks the end of an era for a business that became a familiar destination for people visiting the area.
The family-run venture was established in 2016 and grew from the dairy farming operation. The ice cream was made on the farm using milk from the family’s own Holstein herd, with a wide selection of flavours available to customers. The business also became known for milkshakes made using its own ice cream.
Over the years, Cumbrian Cow built a strong reputation among both local residents and visitors. Its location close to Ulverston and the Lake District made it a popular stop for families looking for locally produced ice cream during the warmer months.
The closure follows the family’s decision to bring the ice cream venture to an end after its 2026 season. The owners thanked customers for their support throughout the years and reflected on the many memories created at the farm.
The business had offered as many as 16 flavours, all produced on the farm by Denise and her team. The wider family business also includes the nearby Cumbrian Cow Maize Maze, although the maize maze had already announced that its 2024 season would be its last.
The ice cream business itself began after the family invested in converting part of the dairy operation into a retail outlet, parlour and small café. The venture officially opened in May 2016, creating an additional source of income for the farming family while giving visitors an opportunity to experience products made directly from the farm.
News of the final season has prompted customers to share memories of visits and favourite flavours, with many expressing appreciation for the family and the role the business has played in the local community. After 11 sweet seasons, the final buckets have now been served, bringing the story of Cumbrian Cow Ice Cream to a close and leaving behind more than a decade of memories for generations of customers.
