Cumbrian Animal Rescue Appeals for Urgent Support Amid Financial Crisis
A Cumbrian animal rescue charity has issued an urgent appeal for help, warning that its future is at risk due to ongoing financial pressures.
Eden Animal Rescue, which rescues, cares for and rehomes dogs, cats and other small domestic animals, says it is currently operating at a monthly loss and will continue to struggle without a significant increase in funding.
The charity’s board of trustees said escalating costs have placed severe strain on its finances, despite sustained efforts by staff, volunteers and fundraisers to manage expenses.
In a statement, the board said the charity has been particularly affected by rising National Insurance contributions, increased minimum wage levels, higher energy bills, growing food and supply costs, and significantly increased veterinary fees over the past year.
In addition, the charity faced unexpected cost overruns during the construction of new kennels, adding further pressure to its budget.
The trustees said that while steps have been taken to reduce spending and control costs, income has not increased quickly enough to keep pace with these rising expenses.
Chair of trustees Chris Cheetham said the charity is now turning to the wider community for support.
“We hope that both the general public and local businesses will come forward to offer their support,” he said.
“Every contribution, no matter the size, will help us to continue this work. With the help of the community, we will keep doing the very best for the animals who need us.”
Eden Animal Rescue plays a vital role in protecting vulnerable animals across Cumbria, and trustees say public support will be crucial in determining whether the charity can continue its work in the months ahead.
