Cumbria Police Deploy Speed Camera Vans Across County Today

20 Jul 2026 Cumbria Police Deploy Speed Camera Vans Across County Today

Cumbria Police have confirmed that mobile speed camera vans will be operating at several locations across the county today as officers continue efforts to improve road safety and reduce speeding related collisions.

The enforcement operation will see camera vans positioned in Kendal, along the A6 between Kendal and Penrith, Cockermouth, the A66 west of Penrith, Salterbeck, Flimby, the A596 between Flimby and Wigton, and the M6 between Junctions 36 and 39.

The locations are selected as part of Cumbria Police's ongoing road safety strategy, with enforcement focusing on routes where speeding has previously been identified as a concern. Officers say the initiative is intended to encourage safer driving rather than simply issue penalties.

Drivers are being reminded to remain within the posted speed limits, particularly on rural roads where changing conditions, restricted visibility, and unexpected hazards can significantly increase the risk of collisions. Police recently highlighted a rise in crashes on some Cumbrian roads and urged motorists to leave enough stopping distance, take extra care at junctions, and remain vigilant throughout their journeys.

Motorists caught exceeding the speed limit could face fixed penalty notices, points on their driving licence, or prosecution depending on the severity of the offence. Authorities hope the visible presence of enforcement vehicles will encourage drivers to slow down and help reduce the number of serious road traffic collisions across the county.

Police continue to encourage all road users to drive responsibly, adapt their speed to weather and road conditions, and remain alert when travelling through both urban and rural areas. Today's enforcement forms part of wider efforts to improve road safety and protect everyone using Cumbria's roads.
