Cumbria Police Crack Down on Illegal E-Bikes and E-Scooters in Barrow

Cumbria Police have intensified their campaign against illegal e-bikes and e-scooters in Barrow as part of ongoing efforts to tackle anti-social driving and improve community safety. Officers from the neighbourhood policing team carried out targeted patrols and vehicle checks in key areas, leading to arrests and the seizure of a number of vehicles suspected of being used unlawfully.
During the operation, several e-bikes and e-scooters were seized, including at least one that had been illegally modified and was capable of reaching high speeds. Police confirmed that confiscated e-scooters will be destroyed, highlighting the force’s firm approach to keeping unsafe vehicles off the roads.
Officers also stopped numerous other vehicles in Barrow, checking for compliance with traffic laws and ensuring riders and motorists were following safety requirements. The crackdown forms part of a wider enforcement strategy aimed at reducing dangerous and anti-social behaviour linked to vehicles in the community.
Cumbria Police continue to urge residents to report illegal riding and unsafe use of e-bikes or e-scooters so that further action can be taken to protect pedestrians, road users, and local neighbourhoods
