Council gives update on Dave Day event preparations in Barrow
Westmorland and Furness Council has provided a detailed update on preparations for the upcoming Dave Day celebrations in Barrow which honour the late television personality Dave Myers.
Officials say planning is continuing in coordination with emergency services event organisers and local partners to ensure the event runs safely and smoothly for the large number of visitors expected in the town.
The council highlighted that key priorities include crowd management traffic control and public safety measures across central Barrow particularly around main gathering points such as the town centre and surrounding roads.
As in previous years the event is expected to attract thousands of motorcyclists and visitors creating significant demand on transport routes including the A590 and nearby motorway connections. Authorities are advising the public to expect delays and plan journeys in advance.
Barrow town centre will once again host entertainment remembrance activities and community events as part of the Dave Day programme with support from local organisations and volunteers.
Officials also confirmed that safety barriers, stewarding teams, and emergency response plans are being strengthened to manage large crowds and ensure a safe environment for attendees.
The council emphasised that while the event brings community pride and economic benefits to the area, public safety remains the top priority throughout the weekend.
Further updates are expected closer to the event as final arrangements are confirmed.
