Cockermouth Volunteering Fair Returns With Opportunities To Support Local Community
Cockermouth residents will have the chance to discover local volunteering opportunities at a community fair returning to the town this weekend.
The volunteering fair will take place at Christ Church on South Street on Saturday, September 12, bringing together a wide range of charities, community groups and organisations. Visitors will be able to speak directly with representatives about the work they do and find out how they could become involved as volunteers.
The event is being organised in partnership by Cumbria CVS and Grasmoor Mission Community, with the aim of making it easier for people to find suitable volunteering opportunities close to home. The organisers are encouraging anyone interested in giving their time to attend and talk directly with participating organisations.
The fair will run from 11am until 12.30pm, giving visitors a dedicated opportunity to explore different roles and discuss what volunteering could involve. People attending will also be able to sign up for opportunities that match their interests, skills and availability.
A broad range of organisations will be represented at the event, covering areas including community support, food provision, advice services, emergency response, youth activities, heritage, family support and charitable work. The variety is intended to give visitors a clear choice of ways to contribute within Cockermouth and surrounding communities.
North Lakes Foodbank will be among the organisations attending, alongside Cockermouth Linking Lives, Calvert Stables and Trust, Village Larder and Citizens Advice Allerdale. Cumbria Family Support and RABI will also be represented, giving visitors opportunities to learn more about organisations supporting individuals, families and communities.
Other participating organisations include the NSPCC, Cumberland Council, Keswick Museum and the Cumbria and Lancashire Magistrates Courts Recruitment Steering Group. Their presence demonstrates the range of volunteering opportunities available, extending from community and public services to cultural, heritage and support focused roles.
Cockermouth CAN, the Great North Air Ambulance Service, Beginning Again and Save the Children will also take part. Visitors interested in emergency response, community projects or charitable activity will therefore have the opportunity to discuss different ways they could contribute their time and experience.
The remaining organisations attending include 1st Cockermouth Scout Group, NISCU, Workington Emergency Response and Melbreak Communities. Together, the participating groups provide residents with opportunities to explore volunteering connected with young people, community development, emergency services and local initiatives.
