Coastguard Responds to Suspected Explosive Device on Cumbrian Beach
Emergency services were called to a beach in South Cumbria after a suspicious object believed to be a detonator was discovered near Fort Walney.
The Furness Coastguard Rescue Team attended the scene following reports from a concerned member of the public. As a precaution, the area was immediately cordoned off while images of the object were sent to military bomb disposal specialists for assessment.
Initial concerns suggested the item could have been linked to a sea mine or another explosive device. However, after careful examination, explosive ordnance disposal experts confirmed that the object posed no danger.
Further inspection revealed that the item was likely an end cap from an electric cable, rather than any form of explosive material.
The coastguard thanked the individual who reported the find, emphasizing the importance of public vigilance in such situations.
Authorities have reiterated safety advice for anyone encountering suspicious objects along the الساحline: avoid touching the item, move to a safe distance, note the location, and contact emergency services immediately.
The incident was ultimately deemed a false alarm, but officials stressed that reporting such discoveries is always the right course of action.
