Coastguard Rescues Elderly Man After Fall On Whitehaven Beach

HM Coastguard was called into action after an elderly man suffered a fall while walking on Whitehaven Beach, prompting a coordinated response to safely recover him from the shoreline and transfer him to waiting ambulance crews.

The incident occurred on the beach at Whitehaven, where the man was unable to leave the area without assistance following his fall. Concerned members of the public alerted emergency services, leading to the rapid deployment of the Whitehaven Coastguard Rescue Team.

On arrival, coastguard volunteers assessed the man's condition and provided immediate assistance while working alongside paramedics. Due to the location and uneven terrain, specialist equipment was used to safely move him from the beach to an area where ambulance crews could continue treatment.

Once safely recovered, the casualty was transferred into the care of the North West Ambulance Service before being taken to hospital for further assessment. His condition has not been disclosed.

The incident highlights the important role played by Coastguard rescue teams, who respond to a wide range of emergencies along Cumbria's coastline, including medical incidents, missing persons, water rescues, and people stranded in difficult to reach locations.

Officials have reminded visitors to take extra care when walking on beaches and coastal paths, particularly on uneven surfaces or in changing weather conditions. They also encouraged anyone who witnesses a coastal emergency to call 999 and ask for the Coastguard immediately.
