12 May 2026 CCTV Image Released as Police Investigate Racist Incident in Lake District

Police have issued a CCTV image as they continue their investigation into a reported racially aggravated incident in the Lake District.

The incident is said to have taken place on Church Street in Bowness-on-Windermere at around 9:20pm on Sunday, March 1. Officers believe the incident involved a public order offence in which a victim reported experiencing racially aggravated behaviour.

According to investigators, a comment was made during the incident that the victim perceived as racially offensive, prompting the police inquiry.

As part of their investigation, officers have released CCTV images of individuals they would like to identify. Police are urging members of the public to come forward if they recognise the people shown or have any information that could assist the case.

Authorities have stated that identifying those pictured is an important step in establishing the full circumstances surrounding the incident and ensuring that all relevant individuals can be spoken to.

The investigation remains ongoing, and police have encouraged anyone with information to report it through official channels. Information can be submitted online via the Cumbria Police website or by calling 101, quoting the relevant incident reference number. Alternatively, witnesses can contact Crimestoppers anonymously.

Officers have reiterated that even small details from the public may prove valuable in progressing the case.
