Carlisle’s Border City Centurions Reach National Flag Football Final.

12 Sep 2026 Carlisle’s Border City Centurions Reach National Flag Football Final.

Carlisle’s Border City Centurions have reached the national final of the British American Football Association’s NFFL Premier competition, giving the team an opportunity to compete for championship honours.

The Centurions will represent Carlisle at the Premier Finals at Nick Newbold Stadium in Coventry, bringing together some of the leading teams in the country. The club was formed under the Centurions name in 2023 and has made significant progress since its foundation. The team has climbed through the league structure and established itself among more than 150 teams nationwide, marking an impressive rise in the sport.

Their achievement comes as flag football continues to grow in popularity, with the sport set to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. The Centurions’ progress provides another indication of the growing interest in the sport across Cumbria and beyond.

The Carlisle club has also developed strong links with the local community. It has received support from Bendles Solicitors, while Kingmoor Business Park has provided equipment. The club also supports Diabetes UK’s Lorraine Hough Tribute Fund and works with Carlisle Youth Zone to provide free sporting sessions.

Head coach Nick Weston praised his players for overcoming a number of established opponents on their way to the national final. He said the team had beaten several major city and county sides and had shown that Carlisle can compete with the best teams in the country.

The final represents another important milestone for the Border City Centurions, who have continued to build their reputation since forming just three years ago. The squad will now look to complete its remarkable rise by bringing national silverware back to Carlisle.
