Carlisle sex offender used dark web to access child pornography
A Carlisle sex offender has been jailed after police discovered he had been accessing child abuse material on the dark web.
David Wilson, 52, of Admiral Way, was arrested in July when his offender manager carried out a routine visit and a search of his devices uncovered more than 60 indecent images of children. Officers established he had been using virtual private networks to disguise his identity while browsing the dark web.
Wilson admitted multiple counts of making indecent images of children between August 2024 and July this year. He was sentenced at Carlisle Crown Court to 20 months in prison and handed a 10-year sexual harm prevention order.
Detective Constable Anna Ritson said Wilson had gone to “significant efforts” to hide his offending and described him as a dangerous individual. She added that officers working within Cumbria’s Management of Sexual or Violent Offenders unit remain committed to rigorously monitoring registered offenders and taking action against any who breach their conditions.
