Car Ends Up in Roadside Ditch After Early-Morning Crash in Cumbria

A car has been left stranded in a ditch this morning after veering off the road in a rural part of Cumbria. Emergency services were called at around 8.05am following reports that a Nissan Note had left the carriageway on Tippin’s Lane, between Gargreave and Ireleth.
Cumbria Police said officers arrived to find the vehicle partially submerged in a roadside ditch but confirmed that no injuries were reported. The driver was able to exit the vehicle safely before police arrived.
The stretch of road where the incident occurred is narrow and bordered by deep ditches on either side, and local residents say it has been the site of previous minor collisions, particularly during wet or icy conditions. However, the weather this morning was reportedly clear.
A police spokesperson said:
“We received a report at 8.05am of a single-vehicle incident involving a Nissan Note. The car left the road and came to rest in a ditch. No injuries have been reported and arrangements were made for vehicle recovery.”
A recovery team was on site by 9.10am to retrieve the vehicle, and traffic in the area remained mostly unaffected, although drivers were briefly advised to approach with caution as crews worked at the scene.
Local residents have raised ongoing concerns about the condition and layout of Tippin’s Lane, suggesting that the combination of tight bends and limited visibility can make it hazardous, particularly for unfamiliar drivers.
Police have not indicated any further investigation at this stage.
