Burglars Flee Carlisle Shop With Stolen Luggage In Shopping Trolleys
Police are investigating a burglary at a Carlisle shop after luggage and other items were stolen, with the suspects believed to have escaped on foot while pushing shopping trolleys along a nearby road.
The incident happened at the B&M store on Wigton Road between 8pm and 9.30pm on Sunday, August 30. Officers are now working to establish the circumstances surrounding the burglary and identify those responsible.
Police believe the suspects left the shop carrying stolen property in shopping trolleys. They are understood to have travelled along Wigton Road in the direction of Bower Street after leaving the premises.
The unusual nature of the reported escape means officers are particularly interested in hearing from anyone who may have been travelling or walking through the area at the time.
Members of the public who noticed people pushing shopping trolleys along Wigton Road during the relevant period could potentially hold information that may assist the investigation.
Officers are also asking local residents and motorists to check whether they captured anything relevant on CCTV, dashcam systems or doorbell cameras.
Footage recorded around Wigton Road and towards Bower Street could be particularly useful if it shows people leaving the area or carrying items believed to have been taken during the burglary. Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward, even if they believe what they saw may only be a minor detail.
Investigators are also encouraging people with relevant recordings to review footage from the period between 8pm and 9.30pm, when the burglary is believed to have taken place.
Anyone who has information can report it online through the police reporting service. Information should be submitted quoting log number 75 of August 31, 2026.
People can also contact police by calling 101 and providing the same incident reference. Officers say information from witnesses and members of the local community could help progress the investigation.
Those who wish to provide information anonymously can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. The independent service allows people to pass on information without giving their name.
Police are continuing to appeal for information as enquiries into the burglary remain ongoing. Anyone who witnessed suspicious activity around the shop or along the suspected escape route is being asked to contact officers.
The investigation highlights the potential importance of privately held security footage in helping officers establish what happened and identify those involved. Residents and businesses in the surrounding area are therefore being encouraged to check any available recordings.
Anyone who can assist the investigation is urged to contact police as soon as possible, quoting the relevant log number, or provide information anonymously through Crimestoppers.
