Burglar Jailed and Banned from Carlisle City Centre for Two Years
A man convicted of burglary and a string of theft-related offences in Carlisle has been jailed and handed a two-year ban preventing him from entering the city centre.
The offender appeared before Carlisle Magistrates’ Court after admitting offences connected to break-ins and thefts targeting local businesses. Prosecutors told the court that the crimes caused financial losses and disruption for retailers already dealing with increasing concerns over anti-social behaviour and repeat offending in the city centre.
Police launched an investigation after reports of suspicious activity and damage at commercial premises. Officers reviewed CCTV footage, gathered witness statements, and carried out searches in the surrounding area before arresting the suspect. Authorities said the evidence against him was strong, leading to guilty pleas in court.
During sentencing, magistrates highlighted the offender’s repeated involvement in criminal activity and the impact his behaviour had on shop owners, employees, and members of the public. The court heard that businesses had become increasingly frustrated by repeat offences and the fear and inconvenience they caused.
The man was sentenced to an immediate prison term and was also made subject to a Criminal Behaviour Order banning him from Carlisle city centre for two years. The order means he cannot enter designated parts of the city unless under specific exceptions approved by authorities.
Police warned that breaching the order would amount to a criminal offence and could result in further imprisonment.
A spokesperson for Cumbria Police said officers remain committed to protecting local businesses and ensuring repeat offenders are brought before the courts quickly. They added that criminal behaviour orders are an important tool in reducing anti-social behaviour and preventing persistent offenders from continuing to target businesses and shoppers.
The case forms part of wider efforts by police and local authorities to improve safety in Carlisle city centre, where officers continue to carry out patrols and work alongside retailers to tackle theft, burglary, and disorder.
