Barrow man with ‘deplorable record’ jailed for assault on police staff

Barrow man with ‘deplorable record’ jailed for assault on police staff

A Barrow man with what magistrates described as a “deplorable record” has been jailed after throwing a drink over a female custody detention officer.
Josh Webster, 29, of Lindal Street, assaulted the officer on October 9 while being held in custody at Kendal Police Station. The court heard the victim was carrying out her duties at the time of the incident.
Webster admitted common assault of an emergency worker when he appeared at South Cumbria Magistrates’ Court. He also pleaded guilty to a separate charge of failing to surrender to police or court bail on October 30.
Magistrates said the seriousness of the offences, combined with Webster’s history of assaulting emergency workers and his poor compliance record, meant a community sentence was not an option. He was jailed for 28 days.
