Barrow make it three wins in a row with convincing Scunthorpe victory

01 Oct 2026 Barrow make it three wins in a row with convincing Scunthorpe victory

Barrow extended their winning run to three matches with a convincing 3-0 home victory over Scunthorpe United.

The Bluebirds had to remain patient before eventually breaking through during the final quarter of the match. Scunthorpe had opportunities of their own during a competitive opening period, but Barrow goalkeeper Ben Winterbottom produced an important save to prevent the visitors from taking the lead. Stan Ashbee created the opportunity with an effort that threatened to put the Iron ahead, but Winterbottom was equal to it. The save proved significant as Barrow would later take control of the contest.

The first half ended without a goal, although there were chances at both ends as the teams looked for an opening. Barrow continued to build pressure after the interval, forcing Scunthorpe goalkeeper Maison Campbell into a series of saves. Campbell denied Barrow on several occasions and helped keep the visitors in contention during a spell when the hosts were increasingly threatening around the penalty area.

Barrow eventually found the breakthrough in the 68th minute through Rekeem Harper. The midfielder had already scored in the previous two matches and continued his excellent run in front of goal by putting the Bluebirds ahead. His finish gave Barrow the reward their sustained pressure had been threatening to produce and changed the complexion of the game with Scunthorpe suddenly forced to chase an equaliser.

The advantage was doubled just three minutes later when Barrow struck again. Seb Thompson saw his effort blocked, but the rebound fell perfectly for Reid, who reacted quickly to fire the ball into the net. The rapid succession of goals left Scunthorpe facing a two-goal deficit and gave Barrow a strong platform from which to control the remainder of the contest.

Barrow had continued to apply pressure before the opening goal, with the home side creating several opportunities as they searched for a way through the Scunthorpe defence. Campbell made two particularly good saves to deny Reid, while Isaac Marriott also tested the visiting goalkeeper. Those opportunities demonstrated that Barrow's attacking threat had been building even before Harper finally broke the deadlock.

Scunthorpe were not completely without chances after falling behind, however, and Winterbottom remained important for the hosts. One of the visitors' best opportunities came when Stan Ashbee connected with a ball and produced a powerful effort towards the top corner. Winterbottom reacted superbly to keep it out, preserving Barrow's two-goal advantage and preventing the Iron from finding a route back into the match.

As the visitors attempted to respond, Barrow remained dangerous on the counter-attack and continued to look capable of adding another goal. Scunthorpe made changes in an effort to alter the course of the game, but the Bluebirds were able to manage the pressure and maintain their control. The home side's defensive work ensured that the visitors were unable to turn their attacking moments into a goal that could have changed the closing stages.

The third goal finally arrived three minutes from full time and completed the scoring. Substitute Arian Allen finished after Barrow broke forward, giving the Bluebirds a 3-0 lead and effectively ending any remaining hope of a Scunthorpe comeback. The goal capped a strong second-half display in which Barrow had turned a goalless contest into a comfortable victory.

For Scunthorpe, the result represented a third defeat in their last four matches. The Iron had arrived looking to build on an improved performance against Hartlepool United and continue moving away from the Enterprise National League relegation zone, but they were ultimately beaten after Barrow's decisive second-half spell. The defeat left them a point and a place above the bottom four at the time of the report.

Barrow's latest result continues a strong sequence of results, with three consecutive victories now secured. The Bluebirds have shown an ability to remain patient in matches before taking advantage when opportunities arise, and the win over Scunthorpe followed the same pattern. Their three goals all came after the interval, with Harper, Reid and Allen providing the finishing touches to a productive second half.

The victory also sets up another home fixture for Barrow, giving the Bluebirds an immediate opportunity to extend their winning sequence. Wealdstone are the next visitors, with the match scheduled for Saturday. At the time of the report, Wealdstone were 17th in the table, three points and five places behind Barrow, meaning the South Cumbrians will have another chance to build on their recent run in front of their home supporters.

The Scunthorpe match also produced a crowd of 2,014, including 137 travelling supporters. The attendance added to an evening in which Barrow secured all three points through a second-half performance that ultimately proved decisive. After a scoreless first period, the hosts found the breakthrough and then added two more goals to turn the contest into a comfortable victory.

With Harper scoring for the third successive game and Barrow registering another clean-sheet victory, the result provides plenty of momentum heading into their next fixture. The Bluebirds will now look to carry that form into another home match, while Scunthorpe must respond after conceding three goals during a difficult second half at Holker Street.
