BAE Systems Lands $180m Deal For TRIDON Mk2 Air Defence System
BAE Systems has won a major $180 million contract to deliver its TRIDON Mk2 air defence system to Sweden, marking a significant boost for the company’s order book and Europe’s evolving defence capabilities.
The deal was awarded by Sweden’s Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) and covers the supply of the TRIDON Mk2, a truck-mounted 40mm anti-aircraft gun system designed to address modern battlefield threats.
The TRIDON Mk2 system is capable of engaging a wide range of aerial threats, including drones, cruise missiles and aircraft. It can also target ground threats such as armoured vehicles, making it a versatile platform for both air and land defence operations.
Equipped with multi-target capability, the system can track and engage several threats simultaneously. It is also designed to be highly mobile, easy to deploy and simple to maintain, with a modular structure that allows upgrades as new technologies emerge.
The contract comes amid growing demand across Europe for short-range air defence systems, particularly as conflicts have highlighted the increasing threat posed by drones and low-altitude attacks. Sweden has been strengthening its air defence network as part of a broader military modernisation effort.
Earlier this year, Sweden and Denmark also procured TRIDON Mk2 systems to donate to Ukraine, underlining the platform’s relevance in active conflict environments and its role in reinforcing air defence capabilities.
BAE Systems said the TRIDON Mk2 has been specifically developed for modern warfare, offering a cost-effective and adaptable solution to counter evolving aerial threats while protecting both military forces and critical infrastructure.
