Army Called After Suspected Ordnance Found On Two Beaches In Cumbria

19 Apr 2026 Army Called After Suspected Ordnance Found On Two Beaches In Cumbria

The Army has been deployed following the discovery of suspected ordnance on two separate beaches in Cumbria raising safety concerns among local authorities and the public.

The objects were reported after being found on the shoreline where members of the public alerted officials due to their unusual and potentially dangerous appearance.

Emergency procedures were quickly activated with police and specialist bomb disposal teams attending the scenes to assess the items and secure the area.

As a precaution members of the public were advised to avoid the locations while investigations were carried out and the objects were examined by experts trained in handling explosive materials.

Authorities stated that when items resembling military ordnance are discovered it is standard procedure to request assistance from the Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) units to ensure public safety.

The beaches were temporarily monitored while specialists worked to determine whether the objects were live explosives or old inert military remnants washed ashore.

Such discoveries are not uncommon in coastal areas where historical training activity and sea movement can sometimes expose buried or discarded ordnance.

Officials reminded the public that if any suspicious objects are found they should never be touched or moved and should be reported immediately to emergency services.

The investigation remains ongoing as experts continue to examine the items and confirm their origin and level of risk.

The incident highlights the importance of caution in coastal areas and the continued role of military response teams in ensuring public safety when potentially hazardous materials are discovered.
