A66 Closed to High-Sided Vehicles Between Brough and Scotch Corner

A66 Closed to High-Sided Vehicles Between Brough and Scotch Corner

The A66 has been closed to high sided and vulnerable vehicles between Brough and Scotch Corner due to strong winds affecting the area.

Drivers travelling across the route have been warned to expect disruption as the restrictions were put in place for safety reasons. Authorities said the closure affects vehicles that may be at risk of instability in strong crosswinds.

The A66 is a major trans Pennine route linking Cumbria with North Yorkshire and is widely used by both local and long distance traffic.

Officials advised motorists to plan ahead and consider alternative routes while the restrictions remain in place. Journeys across the Pennines may take longer as traffic is diverted or delayed.

Road users have also been reminded to check travel updates before setting off, particularly drivers of high sided vehicles who may not be permitted to use the route until weather conditions improve.

The restriction between Brough and Scotch Corner is expected to remain in place until conditions are considered safe for all vehicles.
