A590 Roadworks Suspended to Accommodate Dave Day Memorial Event

13 Jun 2026 A590 Roadworks Suspended to Accommodate Dave Day Memorial Event

National Highways confirmed that ongoing overnight resurfacing operations between Back barrow Bridge and Rosland Pool will pause ahead of the popular gathering, which honours the memory of television personality and motorcycling enthusiast Dave Myers.

The project, which began in early June and is scheduled to continue through mid-July, involves extensive road improvements designed to enhance safety and driving conditions along one of the region's key transport routes.

The temporary suspension will ensure uninterrupted access for participants attending Dave Day, an event that has grown into one of the largest motorcycle memorial rides in the United Kingdom. Organizers expect large numbers of riders and spectators to travel through the area, making traffic flow a priority for local authorities and highway officials.

Under the current schedule, road crews have been working overnight from Monday to Friday, using convoy traffic management systems while resurfacing takes place. Officials said the works will pause before the event and resume shortly afterward, minimizing disruption while allowing the commemorative ride to proceed safely.

Local leaders have welcomed the decision, noting the significant economic and community benefits generated by the annual gathering. Businesses, accommodation providers, and hospitality venues are expected to benefit from an influx of visitors, while participants will have the opportunity to celebrate the life and legacy of one of Britain's most beloved motorcycling figures.

Motorists are still being advised to plan journeys carefully throughout the wider construction period, as overnight traffic management measures will remain in place outside the event weekend. Officials have thanked road users for their patience as improvement works continue and urged drivers to follow all temporary traffic instructions for the safety of workers and fellow road users.
