A590 Clean Up Agreed as Barrow Waste Carriers Warned Over Roadside Litter

A590 Clean Up Agreed as Barrow Waste Carriers Warned Over Roadside Litter

A clean up of a busy road near Barrow has been agreed following growing concerns about litter along the route.

Local authorities confirmed that action will be taken to remove waste and improve the appearance of the roadside. The move comes after residents raised concerns about rubbish building up along the stretch of road between Dalton and Barrow.

As part of the response, waste carriers operating in the area have been warned about their legal responsibilities when transporting waste. Companies have been reminded that loads must be properly covered to prevent rubbish from falling onto the road while vehicles are travelling.

Officials said that litter dropped from vehicles, particularly waste transport trucks, has been contributing to the problem. Letters have been sent to several waste carriers reminding them that failing to secure loads can lead to enforcement action.

The planned clean up aims to improve the environment along one of the main routes into Barrow. The road is a key link used by commuters, businesses and visitors travelling in and out of the town.

Authorities say the initiative is part of wider efforts to keep the area clean and ensure that companies transporting waste follow proper regulations to prevent further litter problems.
