£2 Million Coroners Court Opens in Workington to Serve All of Cumbria

£2 Million Coroners Court Opens in Workington to Serve All of Cumbria

Cumbria’s Coroner’s Service has officially moved into new purpose-built premises at Allerdale House in Workington following a £2 million redevelopment project.
The new facility includes two courtrooms, dedicated family rooms and office accommodation designed to better meet the needs of bereaved families, staff, legal professionals and other service users.
The Coroner’s section is a standalone area within Allerdale House, complete with its own entrance and judicial branding, ensuring a distinct and accessible environment for inquests and related proceedings.
The service has relocated from its former base on Station Road in Cockermouth, which had become unsuitable due to limitations in space, accessibility and safety for both staff and visitors.
Local council leaders say the new premises will improve the dignity and efficiency of the coronial process across Cumbria, offering modern facilities for sensitive proceedings and supporting families at challenging times.
While the physical location has changed, contact details for the Coroner’s Service will remain the same, and the team encourages anyone needing to visit or send correspondence to use the Workington address going forward.
